The House Republican piecemeal approach
to funding those federal programs that make good 'photo-ops' is
infuriating! In an obvious ploy to save face - in the face of the
huge public relations blunder they made by shutting down the
government in the first place - they talk about
re-opening/re-starting some of the higher-profile parts of our
government's budget plan. The World War II Memorial, WIC - in short
those things that have garnered the most criticism by being
threatened - in what they would have us believe is a magnanimous
gesture of Republican good will, proof of their heartfelt desire to
do what is in the country's best interest. Sigh...if only President
Obama cared as much...
Oh please! I just threw up a little in
my mouth! Their saccharin-soaked reasonableness is nauseating! And so transparent! Who do they think they're fooling with this treacle?? What
they feel is schadenfreude at the country's pain! Michelle Bachman
giddily exclaimed to Sean Hannity her fellow GOP lawmakers were the
“happiest I've seen members
in a long time...” !The authors of this fiasco are down right
jubilant! To them, there is no lie too big, no consequence too dire
that it can dim the joy they are feeling at the possibility of seeing
a way to bring down Obama. And make no mistake – that is their real
end-game. Their hate-filled hearts are focused on giving him the
comeuppance they think he deserves. And if they can't bring him
down...well, at least they'll make it hard for him to govern
smoothly.
It makes little difference to the
tea-baggers that “We, the people...” elected Barack Obama - not
once, but twice - to be our President, with the mandate to enact the
very bill they are determined to do away with: The
Affordable Care Act. The majority of us want Obamacare...we at
least want to give it a try. Healthcare
costs are out of reach for too many Americans – and we need
help. You should not suffer or die...or watch a loved-one suffer or
die in the United States of America because you can't afford medical
treatment. You should not have to choose between paying the rent (or
any other necessary bill) or buying needed medicine. It is
unconscionable to think otherwise. And yet – that has been the
status quo.
Whether it is because this is the
POTUS's signature plan, or because those who can don’t want to help
those who can't or because Business doesn't want to spend on it
...what ever the reasons are that Republican's hate the Affordable
Care Act so much...for a handful of renegade Republicans to attach
it's demise to passing a budget is beyond irresponsible. And it is a
dare the President must face down. To give in to this kind of ransom
demanding would set this country on a path that could only end up
destroying the very ideals that are at our core.
Ours is “a
government of the people, by the people and for the people and it
shall not perish...” Abraham Lincoln said that at Gettysburg.
His words are an eloquent reminder of what America is. And what we
need to protect.
